Day 01: Seward /Whittier / Anchorage arrival. | Arrive and transfer to hotel in Anchorage. | | Day 02: Anchorage Denali | Depart by Alaskan Rail Road Dome cars to Denali National PARK. Sit back and enjoy the comfortable seating and large picture windows of this Train. Be sure to keep an eye out for wildlife and magnificent views of Mt. McKinley. On a clear day you will start to get a glimpse of the Mountain with half an hour of departing Anchorage. Three hours into the trip marks one of the most spectacular views of McKinley, and if the weather is good the train will slow to allow passengers to snap a few photos. Heading north from Talkeetna you will pass over Hurricane Gulch and Broad Pass before arriving at the railroad station at Denali National Park. The bridge at Hurricane spans 918 feet, some 296 feet over the Chulitna River. Your journey offers a number of great views of Mt. McKinley, and an excellent chance to see wildlife such as moose, bald eagles, and bear. | | Day 03: Tundra Wild life Tour | Everything about Denali National Park is big : the scenery, the mountains, the incredible beauty, and the animals. The Tundra Wildlife Tour is an excellent way to spot the wildlife for which Alaska is so famous: moose, bear, wolves, caribou, Dall sheep and more. Fully narrated by a naturalist, this six to eight-hour tour travels 53 miles into Denali National Park to the Toklat River. The tour focuses on scouting out the wildlife in the park, in addition to explaining the historical and geographical background of the area. | | Day 04: Denali - Fairbanks | Upon departing Denali in the afternoon, you will enter the scenic Nenana River Canyon, a popular spot for whitewater rafting. Before reaching Fairbanks in the evening, the train crosses the Tanana River on one of the world"s longest single-span bridges. It was here, at the west end of the 702-foot bridge, that President Harding drove the final spike completing the railroad in 1923. | | Day 05: Eldorado Gold mine & the River boat discover tour. | Board the authentic sternwheeler Riverboat Discovery III for a fully-narrated 3 1/2 hour cruise along the Chena and Tanana Rivers. Alaskan Native guides will take you ashore to an authentic Athabascan Indian village where you"ll discover traditional Native lifestyles, enjoy the work of an Athabascan beadwork artist and meet Susan Butcher"s famous Iditarod sled dog team. See a bush pilot demonstration, watch a fish wheel in operation, and see the "Wedding of the Rivers" where the Chena and Tanana Rivers converge. Later join the Binkley family for a trip through Alaska"s gold mining history at the El Dorado Gold Mine. Ride the Tanana Valley Railroad for an adventure into the gold fields of the Interior. A two-hour guided tour takes you through a permafrost tunnel where Alaska"s mining history comes alive. Enjoy a walking tour of our mining camp, then meet and talk with Alaska miners as you learn about present-day prospecting methods. After a short course in gold mining, grab your own "poke" filled with pay dirt right out of the sluice box and try your hand at panning for gold. |
